What are the Surgical Advances?

Utilizing the latest advancements in dental implant technology, Dr. Garrett, Dr. Blundell, Dr. Hanley, Dr. Clyburn and Dr. Wiley can often perform a tooth extraction, ridge preservation graft, and implant placement simultaneously. Alternatively, the procedure may be conducted in stages, with the initial phase involving implant insertion followed by a healing period of three to six months for bone fusion. During this time, a temporary prosthesis can be worn, allowing for a soft diet. Subsequently, once the implants have bonded to the jawbone, the second stage commences.
In the second stage, Dr. Garrett, Dr. Blundell, Dr. Hanley, Dr. Clyburn and Dr. Wiley will reveal the implant/s through a surgical procedure and affix abutment/s—connecting pieces that link the prosthetic to the titanium screw. (These posts won’t be visible when the prosthetic crown/s are positioned.) Depending on the predetermined plan between the oral surgeon and your restoring dentist, he will place either temporary healing abutment/s or permanent abutment/s. Subsequently, you will be referred back to your dentist for the final fabrication of the prosthetic/s.
Implants are performed in the office using local anesthesia, and either with, or without, general anesthesia.
